Alkisah slps 3 minggu kami memasuki alam 3rd year, klas klinikal kami pd pkl 2 ptg will be taught by new lecturer, yg baru menyertai fakulti kami thn ni. Time klas kami tgh huha huha tu, msuk la sorang perempuan muda ni, so senyap la kitorg tiba-tiba, dlm hati masing2 agaknya terfikir,
“eh,sape lak ni?student baru ke?pakai sempoi semcm, brani giler…kalau dean nmpk student pegi klas pakai camni konfem kene halau balik”
Then she went to desktop n opened the slides titled ‘calculations in clinical pharmacy’. Alamak, lecturer rupanya…owh mcm tak caya, nmpk muda mcm student. Gaya mcm lembut je, tapi….ambik kau, lecturer kami yg sorang ni cukup lantang mengajar, x payah guna mic., cepat pulak tu dia ajar, then ada tutorial calculations yg kami kena buat dan lecturer juz walk around the class tgk kitorg kira. Time tgh kira2 tu,ade la sorang student ni tanya, "madam, btul tak saya kira?"…and madam replied,"kepala hotak awak, mcm ni kira?". Ops, jgn pikir bukan2..baca dulu sampai abis. Hari keesokannya, sorang lagi lecturer lelaki muda masuk mengajar under same subject, lecturer ni x garang, tapi cara dia mengajar, membuatkn kitorang ni rasa mcm ape yg kitorang belajar sebelum ni sebesar habuk je, memang mantaplah, even baru umur 29 thn, terfikir mampu ke suatu hari nanti kami mnjadi pharmacist yg mantap camni.
Tak lama lepas tu barulah tahu yg mereka berdua tu husband n wife, dan diorang ni senior kitorang, 1st batch, lepas graduate diorang sambung master kt UKM and jd lecturer kt UKM sebelum join UIA semula. Rupa-rupanya bermula dari situlah kami dh hilang ‘nikmat keseronokan’ dan jadi nerd..hahah. Mana taknya, kt klas kalau tak dpt jwb soalan yg madam rasa kitorang patut tahu, terus kena fire. Masa clinical posting di hospital lagilah. Clinical posting 3rd n 4th year dikendalikan diorang berdua, every week we rotate hospital in respected groups, pagi2 sampai hospital, ambil kes kt inpatient pharmacy department, naik wad jumpa patient, salin bed head ticket (chief complaint, medical history, past medical history n medications, diagnosis n lab results mcm ujian darah, x-ray, urine, test buah pinggang, jantung, hati dll) n interview patient. Those things yg kitorang buat ni also applied to medical students, tapi diorng plus physical examination etc. Activites yg disebut kt atas ni dipanggil ‘clerk case’. Habis je clerking, ada group discussion. Petang paling scary, kena present case depan pharmacist dan respective lecturers. Time ni la kalau madam ada, and kami tak perform..memang kena ‘basuh’ kaw kaw punya. Malu tak payah cakap la, terkejut badak pharmacist kt hospital tu tengok student kena hambur. “Nak saya hantuk kepala awak kt dinding ke?”…Huuu. Aku tak pernah la kena, tapi kecut perut jugak. Tapi yg bestnya walaupun madam marah, she’s still giving us the right answer dan ajar sampai kitorang faham. Kat kelas pun, dia slalu sebut, kalau tak faham, jangan buat-buat faham, duk diam, pastu jawab salah.
Awal Disember, clinical attachment berakhir. Tapi kami 3rd and 4th year masih ada 3 quizzes dgn total 15 marks. Mereka berdua yg buat soalan. Memandangkan semester ni assignment and lab reports bertimbun, so buku pun tak buka sgt. We just depend on the lecture notes, sebab sebelum ni pun dlm mana2 kuiz baca nota dh cukup. They will not asked beyond what they taught. Masuk exam hall tgk quiz paper, fuhh…tanya lab tests, goreng je la ape yg patut. Habis je quiz, rupanya kena check jawapan terus, tukar dgn classmates. Sangatlah mengecewakan, jawapan kitorang langsung tak menepati skema jawapan diorang. The marks juz flow n disappear like bubbles. Arghh, tension giler, tak sampai separuh pun markah. Rekod buruk pertama utk aku semester ni, cukup down sebab aku tak pernah dpt markah kuiz yg seteruk ni. Sebelum ni, kalau aku tak sempat study sbb busy dgn aktiviti memang markah kuiz aku rendah, and kalau aku sempat study even sikit je I could still gained at least half of the marks. Sem ni pulak awal-awal tak banyak kerja, so the previous quizzes I did performed well, Alhamdulillah. Tapi yg ni??? Speechless, students dean list pun dpt markah teruk, apatah lagi aku! Nasib yg sama terjadi masa kuiz 2nd and last. Lagi sekali ‘SHOCK’. Baca lain, yg keluar lain. Tak tahu nk kena study mcm mana lagi, what they expect tu tak sampai kat kitorang. Nak pengsan tengok soalan. Dah la last kuiz tu objektif, minus marking pulak. 1 salah, deduct 1 mark. Minus, correct, minus balik--> telur ayam.
“Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, Torsade des pointes, Wernicke’s encephalopathy, erythema nodusum, koilonychia???? Apa benda tu? Tak pernah aku dengar nama penyakit pelik-pelik ni..T_T”
So ramailah yg mempersoalkan kenapa keluar soalan yg langsung kitorang tak pernah blajar. Lecturer kami pun jawab yg kitorang tak patut juz depend on the notes, search the books, usaha lebih, walaupun tak pernah belajar sebelum ni. Memang soalan-soalan tu sangat susah, our lecturers admit that, kalau ada yg dpt even half of the marks memang student tu betul -betul excellent, baru layak pegang title ‘pharmacy student’. Kalau betul cara diorang tu doesn’t make sense at all, kenapa ada sorang senior kami managed to get more than half of the marks? Because her effort and commitment tak boleh dibandingkan dgn kami, of course she deserved that marks. Terdiam kitorang…
Last session with them was clinical presentation. Minggu lepas skali lagi madam naik angin and sembur students depan-depan lec hall, sebab jawab salah. Nanges-nanges kot yg kena marah tu. Alih-alih time last presentation 2 hari lepas madam senyap je. Sebelum dia comment lepas kami present pun dia minta maaf terlebih dulu. Rupa-rupanya, ada cerita di sebaliknya. Habis je semua clinical presentation, barulah lecturer kami merangkap suami madam luahkan yg diorang dh dengar ada sesetgh students (seniors) mengadu cerita-cerita yg tak sedap didengar pasal diorang kt lecturers (lecturers tu sebenarnya kawan diorang jugak, ex-students). So kami yg 3rd year mcm tak tahu sgt hal ni. Kena tuduh sombong, bagi soalan yg doesn’t make sense, markah report sikit, ade yg cakap they are mean, garang terlebih, dan macam-macam lagilah. Patutlah madam senyap je.
He explained, diorang buat macam tu bukan nk torture kitorang, sebaliknya nk kitorang sedar. Bila dah kena pressure supaya study bagai nk gila, dengan macam tu kami akan belajar, how the real situation is. Memang cara diorang lain daripada yg lain, tapi niat diorang baik, nak students berjaya, they want to prepare us supaya masa kerja nanti kami boleh perform. Malah masa kt UKM dulu, madam tak macam ni sebenarnya, madam sangat lembut dgn students kat sana. Mungkin diorang nampak yg kami ni sangatlah banyak kekurangan dari segi ilmu, usaha dan skill, so diorang buat soalan2 macam tu, marah-marah sebab nk urge kitorang supaya jgn terleka, usaha dapatkan ilmu, bukan setakat ‘asal boleh’ je. And he added (aku tak leh nk recall everything, so ade buat ayat sendiri, but more or less mcm nilah dia cakap),
"You should beat the system. Saya lecturer, saya boleh nampak dengan cara kami mcm ni, you have developed. You actually gained something, ilmu you dh bertambah daripada usaha you, you all mungkin tak sedar, but we saw that. Bukannya orang Melayu tak pandai, tapi sebab dh habit Malays ni suka duduk dlm comfort zone. Time kerja nanti, kami ni minority je, Chinese yg memonopoli dunia farmasi. So, kalau ilmu pun cetek, how can they give us high expectation? Kenapa kamu macam kena tahu medicals so much? You ingat standard pharmacy dgn medic ni beza sgt ke? Eh sama je, in fact we suffered more because we have to deal with drugs. You ingat masa kerja nanti you do ward round, deal things dgn doctor houseman, medical officer ke? NO. The one that you deal with are medical specialists. So, show them that you are qualified enough to achieve the same standard. Saya tak nak dengar orang kata UIA graduates macam-macam like your seniors at workplace. Saya tahu ramai antara kamu ni dah berusaha, but still can't score well. Kalau awak dh usaha, tapi tak berjaya jugak score dlm quiz or exam, jangan sedih sebab lepas ni awak mesti berjaya jugak. Provided with effort, you will improve with time. Saya mintak, please bear with me till this evening, after this you will not see us anymore."
Madam once said to us,
"I paling tak suka bila orang datang cakap budak UIA tak competent, apa hak you baru kenal student I sehari then you nak cakap macam tu."
So that’s what she doing, demi tak nak orang kutuk student dia, she tried to improve us, walaupun dgn cara yg agak keras, she actually wants to make sure tak ada sapa-sapa yg boleh pandang rendah pada kita. Mana kita tahu, entah-entah madam sendiri tak sampai hati sebenarnya nk marah-marah students macam tu, tapi terpaksa guna cara macam tu so that we get back on track. That’s how she shows her love to us.
Tapi apa yg diorang dapat adalah sebaliknya. Tanpa pengetahuan kitorang, kedua-dua lecturers ni dah kecil hati dgn kami. Patutnya kami ambil pengajaran dgn situasi ni. Dah la nak final exam, tapi tak sedar dah lukakan hati lecturers. Macam mana nk dapat berkat. So we all apologized for what happened. Diorang cakap kami tak perlu minta maaf, kami tak salah pun. But we, indeed felt very guilty. Kami sebenarnya yg childish, sayu hati kami dengar luahan diorang. Then, baru perasan madam yg diam dari tadi mengalir air mata. Aku yg dengar pun berair mata. Sedih kot, tambah-tambah bila dapat tahu that was our last session with them, esok diorang dh nk fly buat PHD kat New Zealand (I think Univ. of Otago).
To madam & bro. H, kami ikhlas minta maaf. Hadiah masih belum cukup, tak guna kalau sedih hari ni, esok-esok ulang balik kesilapan sama. We promise to study harder, so that both of you can be proud of us. Thanks for everything, we always pray for you both, dan doakan kami semua berjaya. Macam kata Najwa, let’s make them our last lecturers we ever hurt. Cope the stress and strive for success, InsyaAllah!
